This week my steps dropped way off but I have 2 very cute excuses for that, Chia and Coconut the 2 new comers to our home. These little kittens have stolen our hearts and settled into home with my husband and I like they have been there forever. We spend hours playing with them and sitting with them and cuddling with them. I have done some sort of yoga every day however they are right on my mat when I start and I end up moving around them so it is more like Kitten sequencing then Warriror Sequencing. I did spin one day this past week and tried to walk a little bit but only made it through about 30 minutes of Leslie Sansone. Friends have been challenging me on Fitbit but I very nicely decline as I just need time to transition our babies thoroughly and then we can get back to regular life in a few weeks. In all honestly my body feels really good even without all the activity but I think that doing the yoga is keeping my joints really limber right now. The weather is cold so my hands and feet are having a hard time and spending hours cuddled up with hubby and kittens does wonders for the core temperature.

Ever feel like you are in a rut? I’m definitely in a working out rut and it happens about once a year for me. I don’t really feel like doing any of it but at the same time the thought of not doing it makes me anxious and crazy. Last year about this time I was feeling the same way and my trainer asked me to take a week off and said that taking the full week off would be better mentally and physically then pushing through with a half assed work out. I don’t know about that. I wondered about back then and didn’t take a week off and the feelings passed and here I am again. I did however just walk for a week last year as a compromise to doing something vs. nothing.
I was thinking I might do the same thing this year but I always have so much yoga that has to be done that I can’t avoid it. I’m still doing my teacher training so yoga is top priority for me in the mornings and evening and I enjoyed all summer with walking outside 1 -2 times per day. Now I’m back in the gym every day and spinning either in the morning or at lunch time and doing my weight training 3 days a week and my mind just isn’t fully focused on the task. I think I’ll do the compromise again for a week and do my yoga certainly with just walking for 7 days and see if this rut makes its way by the wayside.
With winter coming, the holidays coming and just the feeling of dark and cold I don’t want to be in this rut long and I don’t want it to come back again for another year so I’ll try this and see what happens.
My steps this week were still decent and I am still staying active even with the brain rut.

This week was an interesting one, my steps are virtually the same as the last week but my yoga really ramped up and my weight training was stepped up a notch therefore my spinning and walking decreased this week. My body is sore from my weight training so I’m trying to do more yoga during the day and perhaps get in 3-4 hours per day as well as use the sauna as a way to warm on some of these rather cold mornings. With Raynaud’s we really cannot be too warm in order to ensure safe hands and feet so the sauna is giving me a burst of heat each morning before I come into work and then I get to spend longer on the weekends when things are quiet in the mornings and I’m not needed until later in the day.
This past weekend we were outside a lot enjoying pumpkin festivals, soccer games, and family gatherings but my body does not appreciate the cold weather so while I do not say no to enjoying the outside fun I have to make sure to really warm up nicely afterward.
I did receive my stand up desk at work a couple of weeks ago and got used to standing 8 + hours really quickly. I do have a stool for any days that I’m in flare and required to sit. Other than during flares I do not intend to sit which is also creating a new constant warmth in my body. I don’t ever expect to flare but I know eventually I will so I just have to be ready and perhaps sit those days.
I am wondering when the perpetual muscle soreness subsides but my trainer keeps telling me that if I am doing it right I should be sore. Is that true? Do I have to live with muscle soreness and fatigue if I’m doing regular weight training?
I have also noticed that my knees and elbows are little cranky after I train but I’m not blaming weight training since I’m doing hours of yoga which can also fatigue them and spinning on my knees so I’m working on exercises to strengthen my knees and elbows also and wouldn’t you know, it is helpful to strengthen the muscles around these joints. Should have figured that one out!!

This week you will see a drop in my over all steps and I did not average out to my goal of 15k steps per day but I knew that the decrease was coming and I’m ok with that. I have been spending a lot of time in the yoga studio and even jumped into a Bikram session this week. I love all types of yoga but I really enjoy Bikram yoga to the fullest. If only there was enough hours in the day to do everything I want but it isn’t realistic so I pick and choose and see what each day has to offer.
I am meeting with my trainer today and we have had a change in seasons so my hands are swollen and although I cannot make fists I am going to lift what I can do whatever it is my body is capable of. I have pulled out the gloves and have covered to ensure my Raynaud’s does not get worse but for the majority of my body it is majorly protesting this change in seasons.

We are in a new month already and it seems as though September just flew by. The weather here in Maine was the warmest it has been since 1871 or something crazy like that so as you can imagine I enjoyed a lot of walking in the month of Sept. This week’s stats will probably be the last of the big weeks until the weather changes again in May. I will focusing a lot of my yoga practice, vinyassa and Bikram. As well, I am working with a trainer on a regular basis and working on my weight training. The activity level is still there but the steps have fallen off a lot. I did increase my step range to 15K per day and I don’t always hit it and in fact I think I only it 2 times this week but those stats will show up in next week’s post. Remember activity comes in all forms, just stay active with what you makes you happy and healthy.
